Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe by Heather Webber - Book Review

There is something about October and my need to read about small towns and cafes. Instead of reading spooky thrillers in preparation for Halloween, this is my ritual to get into the autumn spirit!

Although not spooky in nature, this story does have some magical undertones without being overtly considered fantasy. It takes place in a small town in Alabama and is centered around a young woman, Anna Kate, who returns to this small town, one she called home as a small child. She takes over her late grandmother’s café where the magic is in the blackbird pie, which is completely devoid of blackbirds – at least literally. Upon her return home, Anna Kate uncovers the story of her parents, her childhood, and ultimately where she belongs. A feel-good read from start to finish, this book also conveys the power of forgiveness as well as the freedom in seeking the truth.
