High Achiever by Tiffany Jenkins - Book Review

High Achiever by Tiffany Jenkins is a deeply personal account of the author’s struggle with addiction. As someone in recovery myself, I deeply respect those who find the strength to share their stories, and Tiffany’s journey is both heartbreaking and raw. Her story is gut-wrenching, painful, and at times, just downright brutal. While my experiences may differ from hers, much of what she shared resonated with me — particularly the feelings of guilt, and shame, but also the flickers of hope and the possibility of reinvention.

I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Tiffany herself, and it added a whole new layer to the experience. She expertly switched her voice to capture the dialogue of the people in her life, making it feel like you were right there with her. I can’t even imagine how difficult it must have been for her to relive such a painful chapter in her life, not only going through the writing, and editing but then reading it aloud. Talk about immense strength.

Whether you’re unfamiliar with addiction, have lived through it yourself, or are simply looking for an inspiring, real-life story, I highly recommend this book. Just be aware that there are some sensitive topics, including drugs, alcohol, sex, and suicide, which may be triggering for some. As always, remember to choose books that uplift and inspire, not ones that set you back. We read to grow, not to hurt ourselves, right?
