P.S. I Hate You by Lauren Connelly - Book Review
Maddie Sanderson couldn’t have imagined a more perfect hell than having to spread her brother's ashes with the one person in the world she despised the most. After her brother passed away from cancer, he left letters to those closest to him. The only two to receive a combined letter were Maddie and her brother's best friend Domenic Perry. Maddie and Domenic had an intense connection when Maddie was 19; Domenic proposed to another woman the day after, Maddie within earshot. Now, years and miles having separated them, Maddie cannot say no to her dead brother’s wishes.
Filled with self-realizations and details of the past never discussed before, this book is not only a journey to the places Maddie’s brother wished he could have gone but an emotional journey for both Maddie & Domenic.
Although the pace of the book felt a bit slow at times, I truly enjoyed reading it and found myself unable to put it down in the latter half. The characters were authentic, raw, and relatable, which made their journey even more compelling. What I initially expected to be a predictable ending turned out to be far more genuine and true to life than I had anticipated.
I would definitely recommend this book to ANYONE, however I feel those who are more emotionally insightful might appreciate this book a bit more. The nuances in Maddie & Domenic’s conversations and how they both process their history as well as their present gives a more authentic and thoughtful portrayal of human connections.
